Singer/Actor Tyrese recently paid tribute to the late great Teddy Pendergrass on Lopez Tonight.  He was there to promote his new movie, Legion but gave the inpromptu performance while he was there.  Apparently, Tyrese is working on a future movie about the life of Teddy Pendergrass, who passed away last week while recuperating from surgery.

Posted by Fancy at 8:37 am

Teddy Pendergrass, the seductive American rhythm-and-blues singer who continued his recording career after he was paralyzed in a 1982 car accident, has died at the age of 59, media reports said on Thursday.

Pendergrass’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II, told the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper that his father died on Wednesday at a Philadelphia-area hospital. He had undergone colon cancer surgery eight months ago and his son said he had a difficult recovery.  Link

    Major Earthquake slams Haiti

Posted by Fancy at 10:32 pm

A major earthquake struck southern Haiti on Tuesday, knocking down buildings and power lines and inflicting what its ambassador to the United States called a catastrophe for the Western Hemisphere’s poorest nation.

Several eyewitnesses reported heavy damage and bodies in the streets of the capital, Port-au-Prince, where concrete-block homes line steep hillsides. There was no estimate of the dead and wounded Tuesday evening, but the U.S. State Department has been told to expect “serious loss of life,” department spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters in Washington.

“The only thing I can do now is pray and hope for the best,” the ambassador, Raymond Alcide Joseph, told CNN.

    American Idol jumping the shark?

Posted by Fancy at 9:22 pm

Since Simon has confirmed he is leaving AI and Paula’s gone…Can you say AI is jumping the shark? I am somewhat obsessed with things jumping the shark.  However, I feel that I can see it happening a mile away.

The two main reasons most folk watch this talent competition are not going to be a part of the show as of next season. –Paula and Simon.   (Paula was replaced this season by comedian Ellen Degenerous).   Simon is actually leaving to judge his other reality talent competition X-Factor-US Version on the same network, Fox.   I cannot see myself watching without Paula and Simon but we’ll see.

RIP: Eunice Johnson, Fashion Fair maven

Posted by Fancy at 9:13 am

Eunice Johnson, the widow of Ebony magazine founder John Johnson and a fashion maven who ran thousands of traveling runway shows aimed at black audiences, has died. She was 93.

Johnson died Sunday of renal failure at her Chicago home, said Wendy Parks, a spokeswoman for the Chicago-based Johnson Publishing Company Inc., on Monday.

Johnson had been the director and producer of the Ebony Fashion Fair since 1961. The traveling high fashion charity event that showcases black designers and models is staged in nearly 200 cities each year. Ads for the show have featured singer Aretha Franklin, and actor Richard Roundtree made his debut as a model with the show. more
